How much does training cost?
+
Initial consultations are $200 (75-90 minutes) and follow-ups are $150 (45 minutes). I also offer a 4-session pack for $585 which saves you $65. Travel fees apply for areas more than 20 minutes from Kyneton. See the
One-on-One Training page for full details.
What methods do you use?
+
I can teach you how to prevent the unwanted behaviours while we build the behaviour you want. No choke chains, slip leads or intimidation. Kind, calm methods that build a trusting relationship between you and your dog.
Will my dog only listen if I have treats?
+
Great question! We use rewards to teach behaviours initially, then fade them over time. Your dog learns to respond for praise, play, or the occasional treat. All behaviour needs some reinforcement to continue – you'd stop working if you stopped getting paid! I'll teach you how to maintain behaviours without constant treating.
Can you help with aggressive dogs?
+
Yes. Positive, kind methods are the safest and most effective way to work with reactivity and aggression. We focus on changing your dog's underlying emotional response to triggers, helping them feel more confident and secure. Let's chat about what's going on.
Is my dog too old to train?
+
Not at all! You can absolutely teach an old dog new tricks. This method works for dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors. It's never too late to help your dog.
Do I need to be home for sessions?
+
Yes! I train you to train your dog. The goal is for you to have the skills to continue after our sessions end. You'll be hands-on from the start. All adults who are responsible for the dog should attend if possible.
Can my children be involved?
+
It depends on their age and what we're working on. If your dog's struggles involve the children, it's helpful to have them present (with another adult to supervise). For very young children, it might be best for them to sit out the first session so you can focus. We can discuss this when you book.
What if my dog isn't food motivated?
+
Not all dogs are driven by food initially, but we can usually build food drive. We can also use other rewards – a favourite toy, a game of tug, or enthusiastic praise. Finding what motivates your dog is the first step.
