Corgi Training

Do you have a Corgi that needs some training help? Natalie from Crazy Kind Calm dog training can help!

With over 900 dogs trained across the Macedon Ranges, Natalie understands the unique personality and needs that come with this wonderful breed.

Corgis (Pembroke or Cardigan) are spirited herding dogs in a compact body. Originally bred to herd cattle by nipping at their heels, they're bold, intelligent, and surprisingly assertive — small dogs with serious working-dog brains.

Common Corgi traits and training needs

  • Herding instinct — may nip at heels, especially of children and other pets
  • Vocal breed — barking is their primary communication tool and they use it frequently
  • Stubborn and independent — will assess your request before deciding whether to comply
  • Can be reactive to other dogs, especially on lead
  • Prone to resource guarding over food, toys, and favourite spots
  • High energy despite short legs — needs more exercise than their size suggests

Corgi owners know their low-riding dog has the personality of a much larger breed. If your Corgi barks at everything, nips at heels during excitement, or has opinions about every decision in the household — that's the herding dog brain at work. Their intelligence and food motivation make them very trainable, they just need consistent boundaries and an owner who appreciates their spirited nature.

"We love Natalie. She has this special talent to make dogs feel at ease, and explain behaviours to us humans that make sense. She uses practical suggestions that have helped us manage a now multi-dog household better. We have a bit more training to do but her follow up notes will safely guide us. We highly recommend Natalie and Crazy Kind Calm."

"Nat was excellent. I felt she understood my puppy and me immediately. She is clearly very knowledgeable and left me with a very different approach to helping my anxious boy. She was kind towards both my puppy and me and I was confident she understood and cared about dogs - I have had different experiences with other trainers. After our session and the follow up email I have a lot of different tools to use to work with my boy. I would recommend her to anyone looking for help giving a dog its best life. Thanks Nat."
