English Mastiff Training

Do you have a English Mastiff that needs some training help? Natalie from Crazy Kind Calm dog training can help!

With over 900 dogs trained across the Macedon Ranges, Natalie understands the unique personality and needs that come with this wonderful breed.

English Mastiffs are massive, gentle dogs with a calm, dignified temperament. They're loyal, protective, and surprisingly sensitive — but at 60-90 kilos, even the smallest behavioural issues become very big problems.

Common English Mastiff traits and training needs

  • Enormous size makes any pulling, jumping, or leaning a significant physical challenge
  • Can be protective of family and home — needs socialisation to keep this in check
  • Stubborn and unhurried — they'll do things in their own time, not yours
  • Prone to counter-surfing — everything is within reach at their height
  • Can develop guarding behaviours over food, toys, and sleeping spots
  • May be anxious or nervous despite their imposing size, especially around loud noises

English Mastiff owners know that 'gentle giant' is mostly accurate — until walk time. If your Mastiff decides which direction you're going, leans on visitors with their full weight, or guards the couch like a medieval fortress, that's Mastiff life. Their calm, loyal nature makes them very trainable, but everything needs to happen before they reach their full size. Starting early is absolutely essential.

"Crazy Kind Calm Dog Training have helped us and our puppy progress in leaps and bounds. He has become more responsive and confident. The program is designed to meet the individual needs of our family and the environment our puppy lives in. The notes provided afterwards, enables us to practice our learnings between sessions. Would recommend Nat to anyone looking to bring a dog into the family."

"We have had a great experience with CKC. We have learnt a lot and have been able to apply this training easily to our gregarious pup...now adolescent pup. The training makes sense and logic of your dog's behaviour. Would definitely recommend to all dog owners, no matter how old."
