Vizsla Training

Do you have a Vizsla that needs some training help? Natalie from Crazy Kind Calm dog training can help!

With over 900 dogs trained across the Macedon Ranges, Natalie understands the unique personality and needs that come with this wonderful breed.

Vizslas are athletic, affectionate Hungarian pointers who were bred to hunt all day and then curl up with their family at night. They're often called "velcro dogs" because they want to be touching you at all times — and they have the energy to keep up with any lifestyle.

Common Vizsla traits and training needs

  • Extremely high energy — needs significant daily exercise or they become destructive
  • Intense separation anxiety — one of the most velcro breeds, may panic when alone
  • Mouthy breed that uses their mouth to communicate, especially when excited or anxious
  • Can become reactive on lead out of frustration when they can't run or explore freely
  • Sensitive to tone and body language — responds poorly to raised voices
  • Jumpy and exuberant, especially during greetings and when excited about walks

Vizsla owners don't have a dog — they have a 25-kilo shadow with boundless energy and a pathological need to be within arm's reach. If your Vizsla has separation anxiety, treats your hand as a chew toy, or bounces off the walls if they miss a walk, you're experiencing textbook Vizsla behaviour. Their devotion and sensitivity make them incredibly responsive to kind, consistent training — they genuinely want to get it right for you.

"Natalie is a brilliant pup & human educator! Her solutions are focused on sustainable, kind & fun techniques for the whole family. Our pup Leica was enamoured from day one & to be honest we were a little star struck too. Cannot recommend Natalie highly enough. 5 stars just aren’t enough."

"We were close to the end of our tether when we contacted Natalie to see if she could assist with our young, antisocial JR terrier. Natalie has helped us to better understand the behaviours and motivations of our pups, and how to navigate and manage situations that cause angst for both pups and humans alike. Natalie has worked with us on manageable training tasks to improve behaviours in a range of real-life situations. Our relationships with our pups, and quality of life for all of us, are now much improved. I highly recommend Natalie's approach and philosophy - it's made a positive difference for us."

"I wish there were more than 5 stars to give! Natalie and Crazy, Kind Calm was recommended to us from a work mate and we couldn’t be happier. We recently rescued a Jack Russell Terrier who is nearly 1.5 years old, and after much research on trainers in the region, we reached out to Natalie. Rightly so, she is a very sought after trainer and we waited patiently for our session with her. She even recommended other trainers who we might want to engage, as it would be 6 weeks before we could see her. We decided to hold out and do our best until our session with the her. From the minute Natalie entered the home, she had our little mate completely engaged. Honestly, it was like watching magic. We went for the personal training session first, and her credentials and experience did not disappoint. We had a 2 hour session, and not 1 second was wasted. The whole experience was the most engaging, informative and educational I have ever had with a trainer, especially dealing with rescue dogs and their big feelings. We can’t wait for our follow up sessions. The level of care, the detailed and tailored training plans which Natalie sent after the session, the trust our precious little mate Billy had in her from the first second, and her genuine warmth, and love and respect for all dogs- made it a very comforting and wondrous experience. Again- if there were more stars to give- I would give them. A truly professional, experienced, trustworthy and knowledgeable trainer - worth the wait 💜"
