Staffy X Training

Do you have a Staffy X that needs some training help? Natalie from Crazy Kind Calm dog training can help!

With over 900 dogs trained across the Macedon Ranges, Natalie understands the unique personality and needs that come with this wonderful breed.

Staffy crosses inherit the Staffordshire's legendary affection for people, often blended with traits from another breed. Most Staffy crosses are strong, loving dogs with big personalities — and the Staffy's people-focused devotion usually shines through.

Common Staffy X traits and training needs

  • Strong and muscular build — can pull hard on lead regardless of the other parent breed
  • Usually people-focused and affectionate, but may be reactive to other dogs on lead
  • Can be mouthy and physical during play — their enthusiasm is genuine but can be overwhelming
  • Prone to frustration-based pulling and barking when they can't access something they want
  • May develop separation anxiety thanks to their strong attachment to family
  • Exuberant greeters who may jump up and body-slam visitors with affection

Staffy cross owners usually have a dog that's an absolute sweetheart with people but can be a handful on walks. If your Staffy cross drags you towards every person for a pat, then lunges at other dogs, or thinks every visitor needs a full-body greeting — that's the Staffy side doing what it does best: loving people, hard. Their desire to please makes them very trainable once you find the right approach.

"I wish there were more than 5 stars to give! Natalie and Crazy, Kind Calm was recommended to us from a work mate and we couldn’t be happier. We recently rescued a Jack Russell Terrier who is nearly 1.5 years old, and after much research on trainers in the region, we reached out to Natalie. Rightly so, she is a very sought after trainer and we waited patiently for our session with her. She even recommended other trainers who we might want to engage, as it would be 6 weeks before we could see her. We decided to hold out and do our best until our session with the her. From the minute Natalie entered the home, she had our little mate completely engaged. Honestly, it was like watching magic. We went for the personal training session first, and her credentials and experience did not disappoint. We had a 2 hour session, and not 1 second was wasted. The whole experience was the most engaging, informative and educational I have ever had with a trainer, especially dealing with rescue dogs and their big feelings. We can’t wait for our follow up sessions. The level of care, the detailed and tailored training plans which Natalie sent after the session, the trust our precious little mate Billy had in her from the first second, and her genuine warmth, and love and respect for all dogs- made it a very comforting and wondrous experience. Again- if there were more stars to give- I would give them. A truly professional, experienced, trustworthy and knowledgeable trainer - worth the wait 💜"

"Natalie has been fantastic with our 2 over exuberant anxious dogs and us their humans, we have just had a third training session and it turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks, our dogs 2.5 and 5.5 yrs old are calmer, easier to walk and not barking crazy at everyone that wanders past our fence, it still is a work in progress but Natalie has been an amazing resource and her manner and dealings with us and doggies is wise and professional"

"We just had a family/dog training session with our dog Ollie. Not only is Nat most excellent in imparting heaps of very useful and ace knowledge about our dog, I am most stocked about how she managed to teach (or shall I say train) our kids to train the dog :) - Now that we all got taught how to best train our doggo, we can tackle it together and it's not just a "parent's" job. Thanks heaps Nat x"
